Doing Business with Airbnb

Recently we announced a partnership with Airbnb.  Traditionally thought of as a leisure proposition, in this blog we take a closer look at what Airbnb can offer business travellers.

Founded in 2008, Airbnb began as an idea for founders Joe Gebbia and Brian Chesky to make rent by offering up their apartment when a design conference sold out hotels in San Francisco. Airbnb has now grown into a global accommodation marketplace that uses technology for people to commercialise their spaces.

Airbnb today offers more than five million homes and boutique hotel rooms worldwide. While this global inventory has made Airbnb a leading option for leisure travelers, many Airbnb listings are fully equipped with features that business travelers love as well - like self check-in, free wifi, and laptop-friendly workspaces.

These properties can provide great value compared to traditional business travel accommodations. Based on a 2017 report of average hotel rates in the top global cities, when compared to the average nightly rate in the same cities for listings on Airbnb, companies saved an average of 49% when booking on Airbnb over hotel chains for work trips.

By signing up for Airbnb for Work, companies can unlock helpful tools, like an admin dashboard that lets them manage employee trips, download expense reports, and set price alerts to control travel costs. The program is free to join, and enrollment is easy.

Airbnb also recently announced that it’s expanding beyond the world of work travel, offering features to meet an array of common business needs:

You can now book Airbnb listings when you need a location for team offsites and meetings. These settings can be more inviting and comfortable than typical conference rooms, helping your workers feel more at ease so they can collaborate more effectively.

And Airbnb also has group experiences—unique team-building activities designed and led by local experts. From sailing lessons to pastry-making classes, Airbnb experiences help teams bond and form meaningful connections, which can improve employee satisfaction, productivity, and retention.

When employees need to relocate, or travel for lengthier projects, listings on Airbnb offer options suited for long-term stays. A welcoming place to stay can help professionals instantly feel like they belong in their new communities and provide a much-needed sense of familiarity.
